Sonic the Hedgehog - Reaching For Diversity

Since it’s development, Sonic the hedgehog games where all about the speedy blue blur jumping through loops, avoiding enemies and collecting rings. For some of us ‘retro’ gamers who enjoy a trip of nostalgia, this doesn’t seem at all a bad idea. But with the hedgehog 20th birthday just around the corner, it seems difficult for developers to revamp the fast, furious and spiky blue blur to anything but the original high paced game of the 90’s.

As part of the efforts made by Sega, they have made up their minds to try something different. With little to no promotion, “Sonic and the Black Knight” has been released into an unsuspecting market. For this video game adventure, Sonic has been audaciously equipped with talking sword, and sent back to medieval times to explore the lands of Camelot and the legend of King Arthur. Bordering the ever so popular role-playing games genre, with a sorceress and medieval times, Sonic involves himself in an adventure to the aid of a sorceress battling against an evil force trying to posses King Arthur.

The game fits the bill as far as visual content, pleasant and entertaining with high detailed backgrounds and flashy special effects. Sonic enters the screen on a path, where he is able to steer left or right to clear from enemies, avoid obstacles and approach treasures for the hunt. The analog nunchuck stick is used to manage the character’s speed, while the movement from side to side of the Wii remote brings the sword into action.

The frantic use of the sword makes the game a little bit of a frenzy sometimes, on top of which flashy special effects are sure to move the player to edge of their seat. Sonic is able to annihilate his foes on the go, adding even more speed to the game. The fact that we are seeing the hedgehog wave a sword around for the first time can be very satisfying. The player also has access to a special Soul Surge homing attack, which can lock onto your nearest enemy, and lets you expel a merciless shower attack.

There are a total of 11 levels to explore, including castles and dungeons, forests and caves and there’s a enjoyable mixture of bad guys to vanquish. Sonic gets help from his friends, red haired Knuckles the Echidna, Shadow Hedgehog and Miles “Tails” Prower the golden-yellow fox who is one of Sonic’s best buds, who make an appearance either as Knights of the Round Table or other characters. For hard-core gamers who like to add the tournament flare, there is a four player versus mode, which can also add considerable playing time.

Use of the controls in the use of the sword can become annoying, moving it from place to place. But with the great scenery, flashy special effects, game speed and the traditional flair which has made the Blue Blur hedgehog so popular are sure to bring long hours of fun and enjoyment for both young and old.

The Current State of the Death Knight in World of Warcraft

When the new expansion for World of Warcraft launched back in November of 2008, everyone was incredibly excited to try out their new Death Knight, the first new character class to hit the game since the game launched in 2004 and an admittedly very cool looking and sounding option for nearly anyone that enjoyed either casting or melee play. Three months later, many players are still using their Death Knights, but there is also a sharp uptake in the number of changes being made to the class and the perceived usefulness of any one spec for the class. Here are a few of the more pronounced changes that have been coming:

Class Balancing

The first thing that most players said when they first tried out their Death Knights was how overpowered the class obviously was. Powering through five, six, or seven enemies at a time with a ghoul and gargoyle by your side, self healing options, and a whole lot of armor made the game very easy in solo mode. Northrend was a little harder, but not much and when Season 5 started up, it was evident that the Death Knight would remain overpowered in many ways.

So, balancing out that power has been a major issue for Blizzard and a goal of many recent patches. The game continues to throw new changes into the mix as the class loses some talents, gets others restructured and others buffed to make up for nerfs. PvP balance is still highly on the Death Knight’s side and it is expected that changes to the class in PvE will probably not happen any time soon.

Number of Death Knights

With caps on realms and creation of Death Knights currently lifted, even more of them started to show up on different servers. However, the number of actual Death Knights being played has leveled out a bit as many players have gone back to mains or alts as new content has dwindled. The game will continue balance out as well as players realize how hard the Death Knight can be to play and as many players start making changes to their basic account makeups.

The Death Knight remains a major draw for many players and will maintain its dominance on many servers for weeks and months to come and has many players already salivating to know what the next major Hero Class will be.

Top WOTLK Plague Eruptor Guide - Wrath of the Lich King Strategy & Leveling Guides

Even the most experienced gamer would never underestimate the powers of the Lich King and his Scourge. If the Alliance and the Horde are teaming up to bring him down, the Lich King is definitely going to pull out all his cards and make sure that he stops attackers way before they even touch the Icecrown Citadel. Thus, the Lich King created monstrosities of such immense power that they are considered the Scourge’s most destructive and most feared army. Known as a Plague Eruptor, it is capable of causing not only physical destruction, but plague contagion as well. If you happen to see on coming your way, you better have a good gameplan on how to attack them because it’s not going to be easy to bring them down! Below are some details about this Undead monstrosity.

Why Are They Dangerous?

A Plague Eruptor is basically like a zombie. It is a reanimated corpse. The difference, however, is that unlike zombies who are weaker and a lot slower, Plague Eruptors are brutally strong and surprisingly fast, given their size and bulk. Not only that, they are violent in nature. Zombies might not attack right away, but don’t expect the same treatment from these monsters. They would automatically treat anyone they meet or who impinges on their territory as enemies. So caution is much needed. As if strength and speed wasn’t enough, there’s one more weapon in this creature’s arsenal that will definitely have you skirting them or trying to get far away from them. If you look at these creatures, you’ll see that their bodies are covered in perhaps hundreds of oozing, throbbing pustules filled with greenish liquid. These are right on their skin and can explode at any time. Anyone near a Plague Eruptor would immediately be struck with the Lich King’s plague if this happens.

Where are They Found?

Most of these monstrosities are found in the Court of Skulls in Dragonblight. Those of harder temperaments and even stronger resolve can kill the mobs of these creatures there. Some can be seen lurching around other areas in Northrend, but their highest concentration is in Dragonblight.

How Do I Fight Them?

I’m not much of a battle tactician and I don’t have any experience with these creatures. However, by the looks of it, it would seem that the best tactic for this would be the spank and tank tactic. Attack with all your team’s strength, then have your team’s tanks take on the most damage, while ranged attackers still plow the monster with spells and arrows (if you have them). This way, a Plague Eruptor can only harm those nearest him (the Tank) and the rest of the team can concentrate on getting the creature down. However, if you factor in the fact that these creatures are of considerable speed, it’s going to be a lot harder. Just make sure that you have a battle plan going on and that your gears and armors are all top-notch. Hopefully, you’ll be fine.

Protoss Gameplay Features For Starcraft 2

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 17:30
Posted in category Uncategorized

Starcraft2 continues the epic saga that began in Starcraft with three races - Terrans, Protoss and Zergs - battling each other for control of the outer reaches of the Milky Way. In this game you always take on the role of each of the three races so that you have a different perspective of the various parts of the game. This means you need to use different gameplays for each segment.

Protoss

The Portoss have advanced technology and with the potent psionic abilities they possess, they once considered themselves to be the dominant race. However, in their battles with insurmountable numbers of Zergs, these abilities were not enough. In the sequel to the original game, the Protoss are now at a crossroads and must start to adapt changes if they are to continue. So, in StarCraft 11 they have new technologies and abilities and are bringing back ancient weapons to help them in their fight.

The Psionic matrix is still part of the new game. This is a field of energy emitted by a Pylon that forms the basis of the Protoss structure. A probe can warp buildings into a matrix form, but since the matrix powers the buildings, if the buildings do down, so does the matrix. There is a new unit in Starcraft 2 called a Phase Prism, which is a transport ship that can also transform itself into a Pylon and emit its own psionic matrix.

Warp in technology has also been added to the Protoss technology in the new game. This permits any unit from a Warpgate, which is an upgraded gateway, to become part of the psionic matrix at any location on the battlefield. This gives a new role to the Phase Prism.

The strengths of the Protoss have been expanded in the sequel so that they include:

- more powerful and defensive units

- buildings that can warp themselves into play

- probes with the ability to build multiple structures instantly

- phase cannons that can attack from the land and the air

- the ability of phase cannons to detect invisible units

- plasma shields that can regenerate themselves

- phase prisms can become a substitute pylon matrix

- phase prisms can warp into the battlefield using an upgraded warpgate

- Colossi has the ability to traverse up and down any terrain

The weaknesses of the Protoss in this new version are:

- the units are expensive and take a long time to build

- buildings have to be located within the matrix

- buildings that are outside of the psionic matrix will go offline

- Colossus is susceptible to anti-air

Three of the maps for this game are:

- Dark Templar

- Vikings Outmatched

- Planet Cracking

The game is still in the development stage and there are likely to be more additions before it is complete and released to the public. As yet no release date has been announced. It is known that the game will be released in all countries simultaneously so that players in one country will not get any advantage over players in other parts of the world. This action is also possible to prevent any pirating of the game in countries where it hasn’t been released.

Monopoly Free Parking

Free Parking

Nothing happens when you land on Free Parking. No prizes, no bonuses, no nothing. It’s in the official rules and that’s all there is to it.

Now you might be saying to yourself, huh, I always thought that Free Parking is when you receive all the money that’s been placed at the center of the Monopoly board. Well you’re right too.

One of the most commonly adopted House Rules is to place all taxes and fees in the center of the board to be awarded to the first person that lands on Free Parking. Why, I’ve even seen people put all the money owed to the bank for buying properties, houses and hotels in the center of the board. And that’s fine because, House Rules are House Rules. But if you want to play by the official rules, Free Parking is just a rest space where nothing happens.

House Rules

The problem with this Free Parking House Rule is that to makes the game take longer to play. How many times have you seen a player, down on his luck, tons of mortgaged properties, nearly bankrupt and then he lands on Free Parking and he’s not only back in the game but he winds up winning. Without that fresh infusion of cash from Free Parking, that player would gone bankrupt and spent the rest of the game getting snacks and drinks for the rest of players. And who doesn’t like to have a snack while playing Monopoly?

So if you enjoy a marathon session of Monopoly, then by all means, use a Free Parking House Rule. But the official rules, which were created to speed up the game, say that nothing happens on Free Parking.

Have You Seen the Halo Action Figures?

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 16:20
Posted in category Uncategorized

Halo is a trilogy of video games for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 created by Bungie Studios and has quickly become one of the fastest selling games ever. The original Halo game was launched on November 15, 2001.

The Halo Action Figures have been available since the release of Halo 2 was released in 2004 but it is only since March, 2008 that they really took off and fans have been clamouring out for them ever since.

Many retailers have reported phenomenal sales. Wal-Mart, Toys ‘R’ Us, KB Toys and GameStop all report that the figures are disappearing off the shelves almost as soon as they reach the stores in scenes reminiscent of the 70’s and Star Wars, and they’re demanding more, More, MORE!

So why are they so popular?

There are two major factors that have come into play recently that have influenced the market and thus the demand for these figures

First, on September 25th 2007 Halo 3, the third and last installment of the game was officially released and within the first 24 HOURS it had grossed an estimated $170 million in sales in the US alone, making it the biggest ever entertainment event in history, surpassing such events as the release of the new Harry Potter book and the release of the Spiderman 3 movie.

The second factor, and probably more important, was that Microsoft awarded McFarlane Toys the license to produce the Halo 3 Action Figures.

McFarlane are one of the biggest and most respected of all the action figure manufacturers and as well as being well established they are also well respected by fans and collectors alike.

McFarlane Toys hav a very well established collector’s base and reputation within collectors market giving them the double whammy of being able to market the Halo Action figures to the mass market and collectors market.

McFarlane also has well established relationships with the likes of Toys-R-Us, Wal-Mart, Gamestop, EB enabling them to get the “toys” into the hands of the fans across the nation and internationally. This also meant that many fans, gamers and collectors, despite the fact that the game and figures had been out for some time, were able to get their hands on the Halo action figures for the first time.

McFarlane’s experience, understanding and knowledge of the collectors market has also given them a huge advantage over other companies and has allowed them to create a hunger and need for these figures by limiting their production, keeping a constant supply of new figures available and ensuring there are exclusive, variant, and chase figures available to cater to the collectors market.

There have been three “main” series of Halo Action Figures released, each with a base set of approx six figures. These “base” sets are the figures that are mass produced and readily available through mass retailers such as Toys R Us, Wal-Mart, EB, Gamestop etc.

But each series has also has a number of exclusive and variant figures available, e.g. in series 2 there are as many as 18 (Yes, EIGHTEEN) different variant and exclusive Spartan figures available! These chase or variant action figures are very limited in numbers and are either exclusive to certain shops or retailers or special event figures.

As a result many of the series 1 Halo Figures Action Figures are already becoming particularly sought after and rare, especially the grunts which are already selling for up to double their original price on the secondary market

And there’s more to come…

In 2009 McFarlane Toys will be releasing a number of new Halo 3 products including a range of 12-inch Halo Action Figures, statues, interchangeable armor and helmets, 3 inch tradable figures and a range of Halo Wars figures based on the highly anticipated new Halo strategy game.

Top Warhammer Online Warrior Priest Guide - Warhammer Warrior Priest Strategy & Leveling Guides

Tuesday, June 9, 2009 14:55
Posted in category Uncategorized

There are two divisions in the Armies of War. These are the Armies of Oder and the Armies of Destruction. Under the Armies of Order lies the Empire Army of humans. And within this Empire is their career option. They are a healing class that are still made up tough fighters. One of the their strengths is that he is both a dependable healer and is efficient. A number of gamers have constructed Warhammer Online warrior priest guides to help out newbies and other players in trying to both play as and fight against them.

A melee combat is where they can truly shine as a fighter. However, this can entail quite a risk just as any healing career option will always be targeted for enemy hatred within the battlefield. Among the their top skills and tactics is the so-called Righteous Fury. This serves as a measurement of their power. Each time he goes into battle, the Righteous Fury builds up. The Righteous Fury may be utilized both for healing and combat purposes. It starts off with 250 and then in between your fights, the Righteous Fury regenerates itself. But during the combat itself, the Fury will not regenerate on its own. They have to see to that.

There are three career masteries for them:

1. the Path of Salvation - they are concerned with his magical healing abilities. Those players who choose this path will focus more on their ability to heal rather than his capacity to fight. However, since they need to build up the Righteous Fury they will have to be front liners in a melee combat.

2. the Path of Grace - focused also on melee attacks in order that the Righteous Fury will be built up and they will be motivated to fight some more.

3. the Path of Wrath - is concerned with melee attacks that serve to completely eliminate the enemies. The main focus here is the offensive attack that they are capable of.

When you play against them, bear in mind that they are a very worthy opponent. You need to be prepared to face both his strength as a melee combatant and as a healer. Your goal is to break the Righteous Fury. You can do this by suppressing his ability to build it up or by completely preventing him from making full use of the Righteous Fury. They wear armors of moderate weight and protection and so you can use these to your advantage. They are difficult opponent to beat but it can be done. It is also useful to know of the top Warhammer Online guide to help you with your game with or against the warrior priest.

What Makes the Xbox 360 Such a Great Choice For a Video Game Console

Just playing the Xbox 360 will be enough to show you what makes the Xbox 360 such a great choice for the discriminating gamer. Its state of the art features have to be experienced to be fully appreciated.

When Microsoft designed the Xbox 360, their goal was to offer a gaming platform which would allow each player to have a unique experience, rather than simply to beat the game. With Xbox 360 games each player’s playing style and the decisions they make in the course of a game influence the way the game plays out. The player becomes the center of the experience instead of the game.

To go along with its unique approach to gaming, this video game console has raised the bar in console gaming with surround-sound audio and high-definition video. You don’t need to have HDTV to benefit from the rich graphics. But if you do have it, get ready for an experience that far surpasses what any other console offers.

With online competition a major piece in future video game development, you can’t go wrong with Xbox 360. Since Microsoft has their name on this system, you know that they take pride in offering an unmatched online service.

There are two versions of Xbox Live. With Silver, you can download trailers, demos, Xbox Live Arcade games, and chat with friends. The Gold version also allows you to compete online with other gamers. Xbox Live lets you use one nickname for every game, and keep a list of your favorite gaming competitors.

And if that’s not enough to convince you about what makes the Xbox 360 such a great choice, consider that you have access to upwards of 1000 game titles. You can also play certain games from the original Xbox series, as well as viewing DVD movies.
